There is a twist and it's delivered in Greed Corp's base-building, which is injected with a unique dose of risk and reward. It's a staunchly traditional tool-set, but the familiarity only helps make Greed Corps an eminently approachable game to play, in a genre that's often weighed down with rules that are impenetrable to all but the most dedicated of players. Combat itself is basic attrition – five units beat four and so forth. There are four core units to play with, from the walker – a highly anthropomorphized mech unit that's the game's equivalent to a foot soldier – to carrier units, ranged cannons and the bases themselves, Harvesters that provide the funds that are essential to progressing through the game. Up to four players take point on maps formed of hexagonal tiles, the aim being total annihilation of the opposition. This translates into a game that's a deft mix of base-building and traditional board-game mechanics, distilling the essence of Risk into a bite-sized multiplayer turn-based strategy game that's presented with a wonderfully whimsical art style.
